The glamour of Miss Monroe may have been unrivalled for years as women worldwide try to emulate her look, but now it appears that British women have moved on to the girl-next-door look.

Hollywood beauties such as Winslet, Aniston, Cameron Diaz and Rachel McAdams beat the classical ladies like Elizabeth Taylor and Monroe in a poll carried out by Venus Embrace.

According to the findings, women find it easier to copy the look of modern-day actresses over the unobtainable glamour of previous beauty sirens.

Rather than bold red lips and immaculately groomed hair that used to be the true signs of glamour, now hair-free legs and a toned body are the necessary ingredients.

Speaking on behalf of Venus Embrace’s research, make-up artist to the stars, Tina Earnshaw, says that this shift in icon following is because of technology.

‘The challenge with this understated look is with the advancement of cinematic technologies such as high-definition, every detail is visible on screen which means fine flaws such as smudged make-up or rogue hairs are easily detected.’

She’s conquered the world of television and movies as an actress, and now Jennifer Aniston is looking to try her hand as a director.

The “Rumor Has It” babe has announced her first directorial project, the result of her desire to try out new things.

Jen told press, “I have a project in development I’m going to direct. After you get enough movies under your belt you sit back and go, ‘What’s next?’

The “Bounty Hunter” babe added, “It’s getting to a time where creatively I want to turn in a different direction.”

Sheryl Crow is on the prowl -– for Jennifer Aniston.

The singer, who recently shot a three-episode guest spot on Cougar Town with Courteney Cox, says she would love to have her longtime pal Aniston appear on the show, too.

“She’d be great at anything. I mean, my gosh. Who wouldn’t want to see Jennifer Aniston and Courteney again?” Crow told PEOPLE at the 12th Annual Forces for Nature Benefit Gala at Chelsea Piers in New York Thursday.

While there are currently no known plans for Aniston to appear on Cox’s Cougar Town, Crow says she’d be intimidated — and excited -– by the chance to share the screen with the two veteran actresses. “I’d be way out of my league but how lovely,” she said.

Crow could relate to her sassy character, Sara, because she was “a bit of a smart ass,” says the singer, who describes the experience as “a blast!”

“It was three episodes and we shot for three weeks and I loved it,” she said. “I love Courteney and I loved everyone on the cast, they were just so great. Nice way to spend your time.” – Mary Park

Jennifer Aniston says there’s “a long story” behind her perfume name, Lolavie, which roughly translates into “laughing at life.”

“And, honestly, it’s too personal to tell,” teases the actress, 41, to Women’s Wear Daily.

The bottle, though, was inspired by Aniston’s affinity for modern architecture, she says — a shared hobby with ex Brad Pitt. (She once deadpanned that she, Pitt, and Angelina Jolie were in an “insane Bermuda triangle.”)
Aniston says her scent, which will cost between $46.50 and $61.95, will smell “sexy and clean… floral, but not too flowery.”

“I am not a big perfume-y fragrance fan,” she explains. “I want people to go, ‘What is that? You smell great!’ But most of all, I wanted it to smell natural.”

Aniston says she’s been approached numerous times to create a fragrance but, “Nothing made me go, ‘Oh that would be fun’ until this,” she says.

She has been heavily involved in every step over the past year-and-a-half, from creating the scent to conceptualizing the ads, which were shot at her fave getaway spot, Cabo San Lucas, and will debut this June in British fashion mags.

“It wasn’t just about showing up for a shoot and putting my name on a bottle. I felt like a little chemist,” she says. “It’s turned out to be an extension of myself as opposed to slapping my name on something.”

She doesn’t have plans to expand a beauty line, but she does want to branch out in her career.

“I have a project in development. I’m going to direct,” she says. “After you get enough movies under your belt, you sit back and go, ‘What’s next?’ It’s getting to be the time where creatively I want to turn in a different direction.”

After wrapping her current film Just Go With It, she’ll next shoot a father-daughter indie project, Buttercup.

“I’m really excited about that one,” she says. “It’s not trying not to make people laugh and it’s not a big tent pole picture. It will be more for me — and for the people who say, ‘You should do something serious.’”
